Vacation prep -- is there such a thing?

I don't know how it happens, but we just don't plan our vacations until the very last minute. We are going on a rather grand trip to the mid-West and we are winging it all the way!

There are lots of places we want to visit and things we hope to do, but as of right now, there is only one room booked at the Inn for this family, no tickets purchased, no itinerary laid out.

Saying that, we have done this for YEARS...and it amounts to the best vacation adventures EVER!! It has never (well maybe one time many, many years ago on Easter weekend in Italy) resulted in a mad scramble to find a place to stay, nor have we ever had trouble located a Church for Mass. And, the thrill is really not knowing exactly where we are going to land, and no pressure to leave a certain place at a certain time to be at a certain hotel. IT'S AWESOME!

Now, many of you may be cringing at the thought of a family like ours trying to make something like this work.

What about Eddie? Don't you need to know that he will have appropriate accommodations?

Don't you need two adjoining rooms to keep the family together?

All I can say is that it has never been a problem. We have tried to book places in advance -- at the beach -- and we wished we hadn't made a reservation based on a picture on the Internet.

Now, this is not a situation that would work well for beach house rentals. I suggest that you do that well in advance. Although, I do have a friend who swears by waiting until the absolute last minute to find the house that an agency is desperate to rent, and then negotiate a discount. So, there could be advantages to last minute arrangements there, too.

But, we're not stressed with anything more than bringing enough clothing for the trip, and having enough snacks to make it to our first destination -- somewhere in Ohio.

I'll try to keep you filled in on our progress (Oh, I do have to point out that we will be staying with family on this trip, so those accommodations are already arranged, but that is typically not the norm).

I can't wait for the adventure to begin!

How do you plan for vacation? I'd love to know! Leave a comment.

A wise friend, Kathy, once told me years ago when I was stressing about packing for a trip.."Just remember there is always a Walmart just about everywhere you go if you forget something." That was before the rise of Target, which is also just about everywhere you go these days.

Looking forward to hearing the adventures of your family. God Bless
