Preparing for the King

It doesn't matter if there will be 2 of us or 20, getting ready for Christmas is always exciting! The world whirls with activity, and there's a thrill in the air. The O Anitphons in the liturgy build to a crescendo, making it clear that something is about to happen that should have our souls rapt. Yet, we still busy ourselves and make things just perfect, from food to family space. It's the blending of Martha and Mary -- resting at the feet of our Lord as our hearts make ready, while taking care of the temporal finery to prepare for the King to arrive.

He is the Supreme Guest for Whom all things spiritual and temporal should be prepared. So, last night we went to confession, then we ventured out to enjoy the Christmas lights and scenery. Today, I baked and we sang carols as we cleaned. Spiritual and temporal -- it was just perfect. I think I might burst!

While I revel in the joy of this anticipation, I hope that you are experiencing it, too.

And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child...
(Lk 2:4-6)

I just can't wait 'til Christmas!!!
