Abortion Advocates Fuming At Obama Over Federal Funding

NARAL Enraged, USCCB Cautiously Pleased with HHS 'Clarification' on High-Risk Pool Abortion Funding

This story highlights the rage that is building in the pro-abort camp. They are not pleased with their President limiting resources for federally funded abortions. They feel betrayed by a man who promised them that their ideology was one he would advance. Now, however, he has tightened the reins on funding of abortions as part of Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plans (PCIP). These plans "are meant to provide insurance to individuals with pre-existing conditions until the insurance health exchange takes effect in 2014." It sounds like a good thing, right? However, "Pennsylvania proposed a scheme to implement the federally funded PCIP" in which "the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) pointed to language that they said signaled the first instance of taxpayer-funded abortion under Obama's health care law."

2014 is still 3+ years away, yet those bent on expanding abortion services with federal funds are actively seeking ways to funnel funding to this deadly procedure prior to the actual health care law's implementation. This is a frightening reality, but wait, you're about to become more frightened, and probably pretty angry.

According to Maureen Proctor at The Moral Liberal, we've been federally funding abortions since at least 2002 as per a recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report. Proctor statess:
The report shows that from 2002-2009, six organizations which provide or promote abortions received over $1 billion dollars in federal funding! The largest abortion provider in the country, Planned Parenthood, alone received over $650 million!

Over $1 billion dollars of funding from the federal government to organizations that provide abortions -- but, that's against the law! Proctor doesn't link to the GAO report, but does list specific dollar amounts that have been allotted to pro-abort organizations. It is not clear that these dollars went directly to provide abortion services; I would imagine that they were in the form of education grants. Nonetheless, it is at best implicit support of abortion, at worst it is aiding and abetting the enemies within the abortion industry.

Proctor continues:
It is particularly appalling that during a time of economic recession and a $13 trillion national debt, over $1 billion of Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars would be used to support the abortion industry.
She makes an excellent point -- hard-earned tax dollars have a much better use.

If this is truly the case, and federal funds have been bolstering the abortion industry for nearly a decade, why the outrage from NARAL now? quotes from an email written to pro-abort supporters:
"To our dismay, the Obama administration just announced it will exclude abortion coverage in the temporary health-insurance pools that will transition us into the new health-care system," wrote NARAL Pro-Choice America president Nancy Keenan in an email to constituents Thursday. "I am outraged that such a decision would come from a pro-choice president that we helped elect."
This sounds like a bit of a temper tantrum, wouldn't you say? Keenan is not worried about anything but getting her way. We "helped to elect" you, and now you must do what we say. You're their puppet, Mr. President, didn't you know that? Unbelievable -- well, not really. Self-centered and selfish behavior is at the root of the pro-abort ideology.

What is truly important here is that voices for life continue to spread their message, share the truth and peacefully promote an end to the scourge of abortion. Our tax dollars should never fund immoral or unethical health-care practices.
