Piligrimage to the Basilica

Today I am off on a field trip with the 2nd grade class to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The children will take in wonders of the Main Altar, the Domes and the Side Altars dedicated to Our Lady, and Saints whose works and obedience brought Our Lady messages of her Son to the world. They will receive Holy Communion in the Crypt Church -- what a grace to have the opportunity to receive Jesus during Mass at the Basilica.

The job of evangelization is not over for Our Blessed Mother. She is the one sure guide to her Son, Christ Jesus. She bore Him; He is formed of her flesh. She is the first tabernacle to hold the Son. It will be a joy to see those faces as they explore the majesty of the Basilica. I'm sure many have visited there before, but it seems that each time you go, a new and profound message is delivered to the pilgrim. It is never just a visit to a Church, it is a pilgrimage toward the eternal.

Please pray for us as we venture forward today on this pilgrimage. May the grace that flows from the Son through His Blessed Mother strengthen and renew our resolve to know, love, serve and repent always of our failings. Mercy is found in His Sacred Heart; comfort and solace is found in the arms of His Mother.
